Privacy Policy

🔒 Clipsule is built privacy-first. In Offline mode, all processing happens on your device and no data ever leaves your phone. This policy explains what we collect in Online mode and why.

1. Overview

Clipsule ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how we handle information when you use the Clipsule iOS application ("App").

Clipsule operates in two modes: Offline and Online. In Offline mode, all AI processing runs locally on your device using on-device models. No audio, transcript, or summary data is transmitted to any server. In Online mode, some data is sent to our backend to enable cloud AI features.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Offline Mode

We collect no data in Offline mode. All transcription, summarization, and TTS processing occurs entirely on your device. No audio files, transcripts, or summaries are transmitted.

2.2 Online Mode

When you use Online mode, the following data is processed:

  • Audio content: Extracted audio from your file or linked video is sent to our backend proxy server for processing. Audio is processed in memory and is not stored permanently.
  • Transcript text: The transcript generated by WhisperKit on your device is sent to our AI summarization service (Claude API) to generate a summary. Transcripts are not stored after processing.
  • Device token: An anonymous UUID generated on your first app launch and stored in your device Keychain. This token is used solely for rate limiting (to prevent abuse). It is not linked to your identity, name, email, or any personal information.
  • URL metadata: If you paste a link (YouTube, TikTok, etc.), the URL is sent to our backend to fetch and extract audio. We do not log or store URLs after processing.

2.3 Analytics & Crash Reporting

We do not use third-party analytics SDKs (e.g. Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude). We may collect anonymized, aggregated crash logs via Apple's built-in crash reporting system (with your permission at iOS system level) to improve app stability.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information collected solely to:

  • Provide and improve the Clipsule service
  • Generate AI summaries in Online mode
  • Enforce fair-use rate limits (via anonymous device token)
  • Diagnose and fix technical issues

We do not use your content to train AI models. We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Data Retention

  • Audio data: Processed in memory only. Deleted immediately after transcription.
  • Transcript data: Processed in memory only. Deleted immediately after summarization.
  • Summaries and transcripts: Stored locally on your device in CoreData. Never uploaded to our servers. You can delete them at any time from the History screen.
  • Rate limit counters: Anonymous device token + daily request count stored in our backend (Cloudflare KV). Counter resets at midnight UTC. We do not log timestamps or content of individual requests.

5. Third-Party Services

In Online mode, Clipsule uses the following third-party services to process your content:

  • Anthropic Claude API — Used to generate text summaries from transcripts. Data is processed per Anthropic's Privacy Policy. We use API settings that prevent content from being used for model training.
  • OpenAI TTS API — Used to generate natural-sounding speech from summary text. Data is processed per OpenAI's Privacy Policy.
  • Cloudflare — Our backend infrastructure runs on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare may process request metadata per their Privacy Policy.

In Offline mode, none of these services are used and no data is transmitted.

6. Children's Privacy

Clipsule is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

7. Your Rights

Since we do not collect personally identifiable information, there is no personal profile to request, correct, or delete. All your summaries and transcripts are stored locally on your device and can be deleted at any time from within the app (History screen → swipe to delete).

To remove the anonymous device token and reset your rate limit counter, you can delete and reinstall the app.

8. Security

We take security seriously. Our backend uses HTTPS for all communications, certificate pinning on the iOS client, and API keys are never stored in the app binary. Anonymous device tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain (encrypted).

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. For significant changes, we will notify users via an in-app notice. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
